Ayako Fukuyama worked at the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) (Trade Policy Bureau, Multilateral Trade System Department, Asia and Pacific Division, Conformity Assessment Division) and Deloitte Tohmatsu Consulting LLC prior to joining Owls Consulting Group, Inc.
She has extensive knowledge in trade, geopolitical risks, and economic security, including import/export customs clearance practices, interpretation of FTA/EPA rules, and analysis of international affairs.
She is the co-author of the books “Business, Geopolitics, and Economic Security” (Nikkei Business Publications, Inc., 2025), “The Transformation of Globalization and the Future of the World Economic Order” (Bunshindo Publishing Corporation, 2023), "Comprehensive FTA Guideline to Increase Corporate Profit" (Nikkei Business Publications, Inc., 2018), has contributed expert commentary to Nikkei articles such as “Expert Perspectives on Japan-US Summit” (2024), "Expert Perspectives on RCEP Signing" (2020)and "Specialists' Views on Japan-UK EPA Signing" (2020). In 2023, she served as a panelist for the webinar titled "The Power Balance in the Indo-Pacific and the Future of the Shifting International Order" organized by the Center for International Economic Collaboration. She has also delivered many lectures and contributed articles on trade, geopolitics, and economic security to major publications such as Nikkei, Nikkei Business Daily, World Economic Review, The Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Japan Machinery Center for Trade and Investment.
She is a certified customs broker, a visiting researcher at the Institute for International Trade and Investment (ITI), a member of U.S. Studies Committee, and the EU Digital Studies Committee.
